ML: BL Companies’ Hooker Environmental Studies Magnet School in Hartford

The
Mary M. Hooker Environmental Studies Magnet School in Hartford, Connecticut opened up backward in 1952 and allows hard-nosed environmental education for K-8 students. The school is roughly to undergo a two-year renovation that will look for a LEED Gold rating from USGBC.

Designed by BL Companies, the expansion will admit a 30-seat science thereater, a greenhouse, an acquatics lab, and feature a puting to work ecosystem in the lobby. BL’s design too lets in a butterfly vivarian- one of only a few in the Northeast (including the
Triping the light fantastic toe Wings Butterfly Garden at Rochester, Young York’s Potent Internal Museum of Play, which as well haves a number of light-green design features).

Specific sustainable features of the Hooker School’s expansion are not currently uncommitted, but the renovation will encourage the school’s enrollment from 400 to 660 when the project is completed in 2010. The Hooker School will be the first in Hartford to go after a LEED rating; it’s located at 200 Sherbrook Avenue in the southwest part of the city.

ML is unretentive for our hebdomadary Monday LEEDoff™ column, which typically profiles a dissimilar LEED project in the main in (but not confined to) the Young York City area. You can get at an archive of profiled projects via this link.
