Mutual Craft is 5!

It’s honest, Usual Craft (the company and blog) is 5 years sure-enough today, or sometime just about today.  I latterly plumped backward to the very first blog posts I wrote in 2003.

One of first was sent for “My Intentions for this Weblog ” of June 24, 2005. Hither are two cites:

This weblog will be written in the language of a secular person. I find powerfully that a key to my success is being capable to interrelate technology and expert concepts to people that are not civilized or good-intimate in technology. I conceive that the language of technology is very a good deal revolved around technologists. My goal is to progress to communication technology prosperous to understand for people like my Mom.

And…

In conclusion, my overall and far-geting to goal with this weblog is to increase the understanding and acceptance of the Internet as a communication tool. There is a world of people and organizations that are looking for ways to apply the Internet to act and convey best and I desire this site to facilitate them understand new opportunities.

I candidly didn’t understand that these things were such a magnanimous part of my plans 5 years ago.  Truthfully, I don'’t see much change in the next 5 either.

This birthday post at 2 years is one of my favorites too.

I Switched to a Mac - Hither Are The Notes

I exchanged.  It happened about 2 weeks ago, I reached a Macbook my basal computer for the first time.  We’ve had a Mac around the house for a while, but I’ve been firm to my minuscule Sony Vaio, which has been generally unflawed for about 2.5 years. It was a well one.

But alas, I desired a Mac, and it has got along to go.

Along the way, I’ve been picking out some stream-of-consciousness notes on my perceptions before making any research. I’m utilizing Leopard, btw. Hither functions:

I’m nevertheless geting wind, but today was believably the first that I didn’t reach for the crtl button to copy/paste something.

The Dock is nerveless - I didn’t realise how soft it was to wield. I was seeking menu to add up and withdraw icons - and so felt out that you can simply dredge them to the trash or onto the Dock.

I desire to utilise the desktop as a default place to overleap random files, like I would on the PC - I question if it’s a well place?

Why are in that location no Fav icons in the bookmark toolbar in Firefox?

I enjoy the photos that go on the Mac desktops. Must save updated.

I was lost for a while, not empathizing the product menu at the top. I was seeking “preferences” in other menus - not Product Name, like iPhoto”.

How can I close down all the windows and have the application unfastened at the same time? I know - it’s a mac thing.

We’ve made up one’s mind to catch an Airport Extreme during this process.  We asked a newfangled router and desired to publish wirelessly. In the end, it hired many hours of experimentation, but we paid back both PCs and Macs on a safe network and impressing wirelessly.  My lesson was to pay off each computer printing with a wire firstly, and then move wireless.

I can open up the Mac and it simply sets about.  No more waitressing about.  My PC would rent forever and a day.

Is Text Edit the same as Notepad - just for text files? I take over thus.

Ahh, two-finger scrolling works quite good. I’m used to scrolling on the right side of the touchpad, but this is an soft transition.

I dig up the magnetized power plug, but I don'’t like it’s placement on the side.  I have the computer in my lap a lot, and it constantly comes unplugged when hitting my leg. I venture it may do the same from the back.

It’s e’er intercepted me that the “M” and “W” are the same key, changed state upside down. It appears that way in any case - not sure why that gets my eye.

If I reached Capslock one more time I’m plumping to take it.

I’m receiving used to the Command (apple) button, but man why not merely practice ctrl? I conceive the ctrl button is much better placed for one handed copy/paste/undo, etc. On my keyboard, the “x” is direct above the Apple key. Striking it makes believe me find like I’m instructing guitar.

The screen doesn’t list backward as far as I’d wish.

Why can’t I apple + b to bold something in the browser?

How do I operate up one folder? Solved - Jay learnt me apple + up arrow.

What is this preview thing? I have Adobe Reader, why isn’t it puting to work? Oh, Preview was the default in Firefox.

Spaces appears nerveless. I’m applying it to go between iTunes and FireFox.

We want to master the home stereo from our computers.  Turns out that Airport Express does it genuinely easily.  It was a pain to catch begun, but works like a champ.  We at present have all computers partaking in a single library that exists on an exrternal drive.

When I have two things loose (like 2 browsers) I don'’t see an easy way to switch between then - they get lost behind each other (on the PC they are at the bottom of the screen). What am I lacking?

Do I in truth have to turn out usb devices?  It fathoms like a problem that technology should solve for me.

Looking for the computer runs really really easily.

I’ve held on the previous computer on the network during the transition.  Since they’re planted up on the same network, it is well-heeled to snaffle files.  Simply today, I ordered out the previous computer.
